Tour Overview
Offered January 5 – March 25, 2026
Whales and sunsets — a Maui must-do. From January through March, the Maui Diamond transforms from a dive boat into your front-row seat for one of the ocean’s greatest shows. Join us for an intimate Maui sunset whale watch, where humpback whales breach and play against the golden backdrop of a Hawaiian sunset.
Enjoy a Whale Watch without the Crowds
Unlike larger tour boats, we keep our whale watch trips to just 20 guests maximum — even though our 46-foot boat is rated for 49 passengers. That means more space to move around, unobstructed views, and a relaxed, personal experience.
What to Expect
- 2 to 2.5 hours on the water
- Departing from Slip 23 at Maʻalaea Harbor
- Comfortable shaded and sunny seating areas
- Knowledgeable (and funny!) captains and crew sharing whale facts and ocean stories
- Light refreshments — just enough to sip while you watch the show (no alcohol served)
We usually return to the harbor just after sunset, making this the perfect way to wrap up your Maui day.
Why Choose a Sunset Whale Watch?
Humpback whales migrate to Maui each winter, and there’s no better time to see them than in the golden glow of late afternoon. The ocean softens, the light turns magical, and the whales often seem just as playful as the setting sun. It’s a uniquely Maui experience — part wildlife adventure, part sunset cruise, and all unforgettable.
